Apps für Android

Open Handset Alliance (OHC), which is a consortium consisting of the following companies: Google, HTC, Intel, Qualcomm, T-Mobile, Sprint Nextel, and NVIDIAW, was established in November 2007. The Android platform was then presented, which is the first one based on Linux operating system and which at the same time has real chances to conquer the market of mobile devices. Android has been gaining the market since then and it is an excellent alternative for telephones with operating systems such as Symbian, Windows Mobile, or iPhone OS. Nowadays, devices with this operating system are manufactured by such companies as: HTC, Acer, Huawei, LG, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson, which supply the market with a few dozen of user-friendly models of telephones.

From the very beginning, Android allowed for creating applications in Java language, thanks to which it won hearts of tens if not hundreds of thousands of programmers aggregated around this platform. Applications are run in Dalvik, special Java virtual machine, aimed for this platform and optimised in such a way that they work on devices equipped with weak processors and little memory, which are exactly mobile devices. Java has for a long time been the only language, in which applications for Android could be written. As time has passed, Google released Native Development Kit (NDK), which makes it possible to write efficient code directly in C and C++ languages.
