In June 2007, Apple presented its latest product. iPhone was at that time a breakthrough in the smartphone market. Despite its numerous limitations, it gained a lot of users. iPhone is controlled by Apple’s ingenious operating system, i.e. iPhone OS, which is a modified mobile version of Mac OS X. currently, the latest version of the system is iPhone OS 4.0, which is used in such devices as iPhone (smartphone), iPod Touch (multimedia player) and iPad (tablet). iPhone OS has quickly become a significant product in the smartphone market. According to various estimates, iPhone OS currently controls from 14% to 20% of the market, which gives it the third position. The users’ database is huge and according to Apple, it reached the level of 86 million devices (50 million of iPhones, 35 million of iPod Touch, 1 million of iPads) in the first quarter of 2010.

The main innovation introduced by Apple, which has led to a sudden increase in sale of iPhone, was App Store. It was launched in July 2008 together with iPhone OS 2.0 operating system and a new model of iPhone 3G. App Store is a centralised store, which all users of devices based on iPhone OS have access to. It is impossible to install any application in the device excluding App Store. Any person or company can upload an application to the store. Currently, over 185 thousand applications (both free and paid) are available in App Store. Over 4 billion applications have been downloaded so far. All the above, despite the fact that applications for this platform are created in not too well-known and unordinary technologies, such as Objective-C, Cocoa and it is possible to do that only using Apple Macintosh computers.
